Beija-Flor Naturals is an organic skin and hair care company that was the first American beauty line to include fair trade, nutrient-rich botanicals ingredients from Brazil. Often acclaimed for its haircare, Beija-Flor Naturals is a full line of body products that are nourishing for the face, hair, and body alike. Founder, Stevonne Ratliff suffered from hypo and hyperpigmentation and a number of skin sensitivities. At this time, there were very few natural skincare solutions, especially those that catered to women of color, so she began crafting her own products.
The brand inspiration came from the many vitamin-rich Brazilian botanicals that Ratliff encountered on the shelves at an apothecary near her house when she lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 2013, Ratliff opened her first brick-and-mortar location in the trendy Temescal neighborhood of Oakland, CA named Concept Forty-Seven. A second location in San Francisco followed in 2017. C47 is a Beija-Flor Naturals lifestyle boutique that carries other clean beauty lines, home goods, vintage, and handmade goods. Over the years the shop has supported and collaborated with 100+ independent artists, artisans, and makers.
