How has having experience in the natural products industry helped you shape Lovesong Beauty?

Bringing items to market, developing sales and marketing strategies and growing brand awareness are skills that are transferable between product categories. We may open up sales to natural food stores at some point or develop a line specifically for natural food retailers, at which point I will have a lot of connections to help our launch! For now, we are focused on the beauty channel which has been a learning experience, and where we believe Lovesong Beauty will thrive.

Tell us the backstory behind Lovesong Beauty

I wanted to develop a natural/clean hair care line years ago. Back then, clean skincare was just coming onto the scene, but the clean hair care options that I tried did not offer the same results as mainstream brands. Unfortunately, business travel and the demands of everyday life got in the way of being able to focus on developing a brand. Fast forward to Covid, business travel stopped and I finally had the time to be able to focus on bringing Lovesong to life. 

 

What helped you find the right products for your hair? 

Product testing over the course of years! I am a huge fan of clean beauty and have tried a large share of the options available from back-in-the-day up until now. My experience was that most of the options available had heavy formulas that left my hair feeling greasy, and with build-up or residue. I wanted to find options that provided nourishment and hydration without weighing my hair down. I also spent a considerable amount of time researching what ingredients support hair health, what ingredients are known to stimulate and support hair growth and what ingredients aid in damage.  

 

How involved in sustainability is Lovesong Beauty?

Sustainability is a pillar of our brand. It would have been a lot easier to find plastic hair care bottles for our new item launches (Evergreen Shampoo and Ultralush Conditioner launching early April, 2022). As a company, we are trying to: 1) reduce plastic consumption 2) provide easily recyclable options like aluminum and glass 3) give back through our partnership with 1% for the planet 4) offer solutions to reduce the carbon footprint like offering carbon offsets on our website 5) formulate with plant-based, natural, and organic ingredients.  Conscious consumerism allows us to investigate new ways to advance our sustainability methods.

Run us through your morning routine!

Haha. I work from home so it usually involves taking a shower and washing my hair every other day (using Invisible Dry Shampoo Gel on non-wash days). I recently attended Expo West and it was a big adjustment getting ready and putting on makeup every day.    

 

In what ways does Lovesong Beauty give back?

We knew that having a charitable aspect to our brand was important. We chose 1% for the Planet before launching because their work resonates with what inspires our brand — the beauty found in nature. If we can have a small part in helping preserve and protect wild spaces for future generations, that is a step in the right direction. 

 

What was the inspiration behind the name Lovesong Beauty?

I originally planned to name our company “thoughtfully,” but due to issues with trademarks, we had to switch gears. I was having a hard time deciding on a new name because we were pretty far down the road with my first choice. My husband suggested that I think of things that make me feel happy and beautiful. I immediately went to music from the 80’s. Our name was inspired by a band that we danced to at our wedding — bravo if you can figure it out!

Tell us about some of the new products available for preorder!

Your new favorite Lovesong items are about to drop! We have spent the better part of a year developing our new items. They are bottled in aluminum, which is infinitely recyclable. And, we are expanding from hair care to body care too, which is very exciting. Final production is happening now, and we will start shipping Evergreen Shampoo, Ultralush Conditioner, and Nectarous Body Cream at the beginning of April. As with all of our products, these are super-natural formulas, plant-based, vegan, crafted with wind energy, and loaded with antioxidants and holistic botanicals to support your hair and skin wellbeing. All of our items are made in California.

 

How does Lovesong Beauty source their ingredients?

It is a combination of working with our contract manufacturer as well as sourcing on our own from reputable companies here in the US. Our formulas are novel (we created them with the help of a chemist) and every active ingredient has been selected for both beauty and wellness benefits. We use natural and organic, plant-based, non-GMO, and vegan ingredients in all of our formulas.  

 

How quickly do you see results after using Lovesong Beauty products?

You may see immediate results that you love, like softer hair with lots of bounce.  Our first two products, Invisible Dry Shampoo Gel and Weightless Leave-In Conditioner, have been on the market for just over a year. We are starting to hear about total hair transformations at this point… comments like, “I never thought I would be happy or proud of my hair, and look at it today.” If transitioning from conventional products to natural products, allow time for your hair to adjust (at least a month).  

 

What's next for Lovesong Beauty?

A successful launch of our 3 new items, hopefully continued growth in brand presence and awareness and seeing if we can make Lovesong Beauty a staple natural beauty brand. We are truly just a baby in this space at 1 year, so we have a lot to learn and significant room to grow. 

 

 Besides Lovesong Beauty, what are you passionate about?

I have a 3-year-old daughter who means the WORLD to me. She is at the age where I can start to include her in the things that I love, like cooking/baking, working in the garden, watching a movie and dancing to music.  We live in a beautiful area with sunshine most days of the year, so we try to get outdoors as much as possible.
