What inspired the creation of KUMIKO Skincare?

In 2017, renowned Chilean esthetician Catalina Aguirre created KUMIKO, a line of dermocosmetic products with revolutionary anti-aging formulas that use 100% Organic Japanese Matcha Tea as their main active, combined with her experience in mesotherapy treatment and encapsulating technology, to revitalize the skin from the inside out. The brand was introduced in Chile, in 2018, continuing its international expansion, which today includes presence in United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama and Colombia.

Tell us more about Catalina Aguirre, the Founder of KUMIKO Skincare!

Catalina is a journalist, teacher and esthetician, expert in anti-aging cosmetic treatments, with more than 15 years of experience in patient care.

“What is KUMIKO for me?

“It is what I was looking for, as a cosmetologist, to offer my patients and I couldn't find it together in one and only brand. There were no dermocosmetic products gathered in a single line that convinced me 100% to respond to the different problems of skin aging. I wanted to use them at home, as a complement to aesthetic treatments, with the appropriate technology...

How did the name KUMIKO Skincare come to be?

KUMIKO means “Eternal Beauty” in Japanese. After studying Japanese culture exhaustively, it took two years for Catalina Aguirre to create the master formula with Proteoglycans and Glycosaminoglycans combined with Matcha Tea, Vitamins C and E. The task was not small, KUMIKO needed to target every skin type and all genres, it also needed to be cruelty, parabens and gluten free, the matcha tea extract had to be 100% organic and the brand would have to embrace important values such as self-love, empowerment and generosity. Last but not least, it needed to foster the Clean Beauty principles right from the start, this was non-negotiable for Aguirre.

Tell us about your partnership with Ricky Martin!

In 2021, global artist Ricky Martin joins the KUMIKO family and became brand partner. What attracted him most of KUMIKO is that its dermocosmetic entire line contains 100% Organic Matcha Tea, is cruelty free and the immediate results he saw and experienced on his skin.

How important is sustainability to KUMIKO Skincare?

Sustainability is considered throughout the entire KUMIKO’s production process. All its packaging are recyclable. Also, KUMIKO’s dermocosmetic line is completely cruelty-free, paraben-free, and gluten-free. As well as it is cross-gender, multigenerational and for all skin biotypes.

What are KUMIKO Skincare’s hero ingredients?

KUMIKO´s N°1 = Proteoglycans! Unique, perfect in any beauty routine!

An anti-aging concentrate, presented in vials, that helps to defend the skin against multiple signs of aging and damage, with an advanced combination of antioxidants and moisturizers, acting against loss of firmness, wrinkles and fine lines.

It contains highly concentrated 5% marine Proteoglycans and Glycosaminoglycans, plus Vitamins C and E, and 100% Organic Matcha Tea extract.

It allows an intense repair and restructuring, from the dermis to the outermost layers of the epidermis, resulting in a fresh, well hydrated and luminous skin. Prevents the effects of free radicals and promotes the synthesis of new collagen.

How has KUMIKO Skincare evolved throughout the years?

Since the launch of the first formulas in 2018, KUMIKO has been growing at a sustained rate, perfecting and adding new formulas to the dermocosmetic line, which includes cleaning, specific treatments and hydration/nutrition products.

Run us through your morning routine!

A proper care and beauty routine should consider 3 steps each morning: Facial cleansing, specific treatments and moisturizing products that seal the routine. Always you must use Sun Protection Factor +30.

• Facial Cleansing: Remove dirt and accumulated toxins, leaving the skin prepared so that the care and hydration products are absorbed in the best way.
• Specific treatments: Apply products with a higher concentration of active ingredients to achieve tangible benefits from the dermis, and visible on the surface. They target specific skin concerns more efficiently.
• Hydration: Use moisturizing creams, they are very important to seal any facial treatment. KUMIKO’s formulas are multi-action and contain selected active ingredients for deep hydration and nutrition, as well as technology capable of penetrating the inner layers of the skin.

Could you share a skincare secret with us?

“A skincare secret that I recommend is the application of the eye contour cream with draining massages performed with the fingertips, to help the lymphatic system to drain this area and eliminate toxins, as well as reduce cellular oxidation, the accumulation of liquid and the formation of dark circles under the eyes.

Another beauty tip is to use a silk cover on your pillow to preserve the freshness of your skin and hair. Being soft and smooth, it prevents the appearance of wrinkles, maintains the perfect temperature and does not absorb night dermo-cosmetic products, such as creams or serums. In addition, the silk cover is hypoallergenic and soothing, also ideal for sensitive or atopic skin.
